How to Disable BCSSync.exe from Startup Items

BCSSync.exe is one of those programs you don’t want to delete because it’s an important component of SharePoint Server 2010. If you do, you’ll see some problems arise with Microsoft Office 2013/2016. This article explains how to disable BCSSync.exe startup items.

The problem with deleting this program is that it’s a critical part of SharePoint Server. You might think you’re safe just uninstalling it, but there are still plenty of dependencies left behind. For example, SharePoint doesn’t work properly without this program. So, what happens if you uninstall it?

You’ll find yourself unable to open Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, Visio diagrams, and Access databases. In fact, even trying to run Outlook won’t work unless you reinstall the entire Microsoft Office suite.

So, why does BCSSync.exe start automatically every time you log into Windows? Well, it’s actually a feature of the operating system itself. When you boot up your computer, the OS checks to make sure everything is working correctly. One of the things it looks for is whether or not the Microsoft Office suite is installed. If it isn’t, it starts the installation process. Once it finishes installing, it restarts the computer.

This is where BCSSync.exe comes in. It runs during the restart and makes sure the software is set up correctly. Without it, you’d end up with a bunch of errors and issues.
