How to Disable Integrated Graphics Card

If you’re looking to improve your gaming experience, disabling your integrated graphics card could help. If you don’t know how to do it, here are some instructions.

The integrated graphics card is built into every modern PC motherboard. It’s usually labeled “Intel HD Graphics.” You’ll find this option under the system settings menu.

Click the gear icon next to the clock and select Settings. In the display section, look for Intel(R) HD Graphics. Click Advanced Options. Scroll down to the bottom of the window and uncheck Use Processor for graphics. Press Apply.

How Can I See Which GPU Is Active Right Now?

To find out what graphics processing unit (GPU) is currently being used, open up the Windows 10 taskbar and press the Windows button along with the “I” key. This opens the Start Menu where there will be an icon under Display. Clicking on it will show you information about the current GPU. Here you can see what GPU is currently in use.

How Are Dedicated and Integrated GPUs Different?

Integrated graphics are built into the CPU itself, while dedicated graphics cards are separate components. You can tell whether you have integrated or dedicated graphics based on how much RAM is used by the GPU. In general, integrated graphics use less RAM than dedicated graphics cards. However, there are exceptions. For example, Intel CPUs with integrated graphics use up to 2GB of RAM, while some AMD CPUs with integrated graphics require 4GB of RAM.

If you have both integrated and discrete graphics, you will see two separate values for each. This is because the integrated GPU shares resources with the main processor, while the dedicated GPU does not.

Enabling Integrated Graphics

Your computer might be using the built-in Intel HD Graphics 620 chip, which is much slower than the dedicated graphics card you bought. If you want to use your dedicated graphics card, you must disable the integrated one. You can do this easily by disabling it in Windows 10.

There are several methods to disable the integrated graphics card. One way is to edit the registry. Another method is to uninstall the driver. Here we show how to disable the integrated graphics via Registry Editor.

1. Open the Registry Editor.

2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IntelGraphicsDecode. Double-click the value named DisplayStatus, and change the value to Disabled.

3. Restart your PC.

4. After restarting, open Device Manager. Locate the device named Intel(R) HD Graphics 620. Right-click the device name, select Properties, and uncheck the Enable Driver Software Optimization checkbox. This disables the software optimizations that the integrated graphics card uses to improve performance.

5. Close Device Manager.

From Device Manager

If you are having trouble getting your computer to boot up properly, it could be because your hardware device drivers aren’t installed correctly. To resolve this issue, follow the steps outlined below.

1. 2. Expand Display Adapters under Hardware Devices

3. Right-click on each one and select Update Driver Software

4. Select Browse my Computer for software and let the wizard do the rest

5. After the update completes, restart your PC

6. If you still experience issues, try reinstalling the operating system

From BIOS

To disable an integrated graphics card in Windows 10, you must set the Dedicated Graphics Adapter as Primary Graphics Adapter. This can be done by setting it as such in the BIOS. You can do this by pressing F2 during POST. If you are unsure how to access the BIOS, refer to your motherboard manual.

If you want to use the onboard graphics card, you can still use it, however, you cannot use both cards simultaneously. In order to use both cards, you must disable the onboard one. To do this, set the dedicated graphics card as Primary Graphics Adapter. Then, set the onboard graphics card as Secondary Graphics Adapter. Finally, set the VGA Priority to Offboard.

Should Integrated Graphics Card Be Disabled?

The integrated graphics card is one of the most important parts of a laptop because it provides basic functionality like displaying text and images on screen. However, some people disable it because they think it slows down the laptop. But are those claims true? Let’s find out.

How Can an Application Run on a Dedicated Graphics Card?

If you are running Windows 10 version 1903, you might see a pop up window asking whether you want to use dedicated graphics card. If you select Yes, it will automatically install the latest driver for your GPU. This article explains how to check your system requirements and choose the best option.
